India has three different photo specifications for three different documents — and confusing them is the single most common reason applications get delayed. The Indian passport uses a 35×45mm rectangular format (630×810 pixels) for the Passport Seva portal. The OCI card uses a completely different 51×51mm square format. And the Indian e-Visa has its own dimensions (350×350 pixels). A photo made for one will be rejected by the other.
What Makes This Specification Unique
Three different photo specs: Passport (35×45mm), OCI (51×51mm square), e-Visa (350×350px)
Glasses effectively banned since September 2025 ICAO enforcement
Face coverage increased from 70-80% to 80-85% under new ICAO rules
Passport Seva portal (GPSP 2.0) checks for AI-generated backgrounds and beauty filters
Mobile browser uploads cause specific error codes — always upload from desktop
File must be exactly 630×810 pixels — not a common camera output size
Recent Changes
September 2025: ICAO enforcement begins — glasses effectively banned, face coverage increased to 80-85%. February 2026: Passport Seva Program 2.0 (GPSP 2.0) launched with enhanced digital checks.
Common Rejection Reasons
Wrong dimensions — used OCI square format instead of passport rectangular
File size over 250 KB (common with modern phone cameras)
Glasses worn (banned since Sept 2025)
Non-white background
Uploaded from mobile browser (causes portal errors)
AI-edited background detected by GPSP 2.0
ExactPix Tool Rules for This Spec
When you use the ExactPix tool on this page, it's pre-configured with these rules:
This is the INDIAN PASSPORT spec (35×45mm rectangular) — NOT the OCI spec (51×51mm square)
Glasses banned since September 2025
File must be under 250 KB — phone cameras produce 3-8 MB files
Upload from desktop, not mobile browser — Passport Seva portal has mobile upload issues
Where to Get This Photo
Most photo studios in India default to 35×45mm. When renewing from the US via VFS Global, you need both a digital file (630×810px for Passport Seva) AND physical prints (35×45mm for the VFS packet). One photo gets pasted on the Affidavit of Change of Appearance form.
